The following commentaries are on a variety of subjects.
More are coming. Although I have conservative leanings,
politically I am an independent -- really a Libertarian. My
perspective is as follows: The wacko left-wing concept is
that if people are rewarded for doing bad things that they will
stop doing bad things and that if people are taxed for doing good
things that they will be inspired to do more good
things. The nut-case
right-wing concept is that if people are punished for not being
members of the right-wing that they will be inspired to become
members in order to enjoy privileged class status with all its
corruptions. It
should be noted that in both cases the result is a money flow
towards the hierarchy of the wing. Personally, I am inspired to
avoid both as each conspires to impose stupidity upon me.
Death to Mr.
S.W. Ehlse This is a short humorous piece that
relates to something all of us have experienced. Some
people are the purpetrators though and should look out -- revenge
could be coming.
Offensive Sport Team Names (a satire) This is from an email circulation. The author is unknown but was inspired by the controversy about the name of the Washington Redskins. I must add a comment that I agree that the names of some teams can be taken with offense although I do not believe any offense was ever intended. If the names of some sport teams are changed it should be a voluntary process without government intervention. So I am in favor of some name changes but I do not want to impose that. This short satire should make one think before jumping to any conclusion that the name of any sport team should be changed -- with force if necessary. I think many people should reflect and find positives rather than negatives.
Of Drones
and Terrorists This piece explores the
controversy concerning the use of drones and other means to kill
terrorists even if those terrorists are Americans.
A Brief
Sermon on Education An education is what you earn, not
what you are given.
The
Quality of Students Today Contrary to popular
belief, there are still good students. I see them -- they
are in the classes I teach.
Students
Page There are some more educational
commentaries including A Politically Incorrect
Commencement Address under the page for my students.
Are Conservatives and Liberals Mixed Up Some
interesting examples of how each is the other.
Election of
2000 Contrary to popular belief, the system actually
worked in Florida.
Collapsing the Conspiracy
Myths about the World Trade Center Collapse
This is a brief review of the "documentary", 9/11
Mysteries. I found the conspiracy theories to
be bogus.
A
Mathematical Analysis of the Collapse of the World Trade
Center This is an examination of the physics
concerning a collapsing building. A simple model is used to
show that the collapse of the twin towers was the result of
normal physics and that explosives were not necessary.
Who are
Those Denied the Right to Vote? This explores
the myths of a passionate issue.
Salary
Myth Concerning Women I explore this
controversial topic and illustrate that the common interpretation
is wrong while pointing to the real issue. I point to
numerous ways in which people are deceived and encourage all to
think. The following link is to an excellent Wall
Street Journal article that makes some of the same points that I
do concerning "equal" pay for women. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304198004575172382976442708.html.
Another interesting and very related piece in the Wall
Street Journal (April 12, 2011) by even a female author is
"There is No Male-Female Wage Gap" http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704415104576250672504707048.html.
Political Correctness versus Freedom for
details and a general discussion of the absurd concept known as
political correctness.
The Real
Offense This piece examines the issues
surrounding the Judge Sonia Sotomayor quote concerning white
males. It should not be taken as offensive. But the
concept that offense should be taken is offensive.
Evolution is
Creation This short essay points out a number of
factors that both sides should be aware of and shows that
Creation is not wrong but that evolution is a necessary component
of Creation.
Parable of Grog and Zog This is a link to a
short audio clip of commentator Dan Carsen discussing the
Parable of Grog and Zog as it relates to those who try
to make religion supreme over Nature. This is thought
provoking -- do we work together because it is in our self
interest or do we work together only because of
religion? Would the world really degenerate into chaos
without religion? I believe in Nature over religion so I
really enjoyed this piece.
Foreclosure Discrimination? This is a commentary I wrote concerning an
article in the Washington Post. It is the classic example
of why people rightly complain that the press has a leftist (or
is it wrongist?) bias.
Mindless
Rage Against BP In relation to the oil rig
disaster in the Gulf this commentary was inspired by an apparent
boycott at the BP station where I buy gasoline each week and
continue to buy. It is another example of sheeple not
thinking or knowing what they do.
Lessons
from a Tragic Death The tragic shooting of Trayvon
Martin in Sanford, FL on Feb. 26, 2012 by George Zimmerman was
the result of a number of lessons that never seem to be
learned.
